Temperatures here can drop as low as -50C, pushing engine oils to their limits.

And the cold air isn’t the only challenge.

The remote landscape of Finland provides the perfect opportunity for us to test our technology in trucks covering huge distances – often in excess of 350,000km per year.

Working with our Finnish partners, we run field trials in various applications; from supermarket trucks shipping vital goods to the local towns, to logging companies transporting vast quantities of timber all the way from Rovaniemi in the North to the capital Helsinki 800km away in the South.

Pre-trial, Infineum provides all test oil and sampling equipment required for the duration of the field trial.

Then, following a detailed plan and in collaboration with local fleet operators, we prepare the engine by flushing it with test oil, change filters as required and refill the engine with fresh test oil to ensure we have a baseline sample for the start of test.

Throughout our trials, Infineum Field-Testing experts take intermediate oil samples to analyse the performance of the lubricant, ensuring minimum disruption to normal business operations for our testing partners.

And at the end of the test, we carry out a full engine inspection, working in deep collaboration with our OEM lubricant counterparts to grade the performance of the engine oil, analysing in detail key pieces of hardware including pistons, liners, bearings and valves.
